The Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI) is proud to announce the renewed support of the Justa Gardi Foundation for the International Humanitarian Law Compliance Monitoring Database (ICMD), marking a significant step forward in our shared commitment to accountability and the rule of law in armed conflict.
The renewed gift from the Justa Gardi Foundation will allow RWI to continue strengthening the ICMD’s core functions—monitoring compliance with international humanitarian law (IHL), improving access to reliable data, enabling evidence-based analysis and policymaking, and supporting informed advocacy and accountability efforts across the globe.
“This renewed support is a strong vote of confidence in our efforts to make alleged violations of IHL visible, decipherable, and preventable,” said Peter Lundberg, Executive Director of RWI. “The ICMD is not only a tool for transparency; it is a tool for justice and prevention.”
Established in 2024, ICMD aims to serve as a vital resource for governments, civil society, academics, and international organizations seeking to monitor and respond to alleged breaches of IHL in real time. The platform will aggregate verified data from a wide range of open sources and expert assessments, allowing users to track patterns of violations, understand accountability gaps, and advocate for more robust enforcement mechanisms.
RWI extends its gratitude to the Justa Gardi Foundation for its continued partnership and belief in the transformative power of accessible, data-driven human rights tools and solutions.
